Date Change for the 2024 Lawrence Art Guild Holiday Art Fair:
NEW: December 14 and 15, 2024
(NOT December 7 and 8) at Cider Gallery
Note from Maria
Thank you to members who attended the Guild’s “Let’s Have Dessert” and Meet the New Members. It was a “sweet” meeting, and a great setting for getting to know each other. Thank you all who participated. During this gathering we visited with members interested in helping by volunteering and serving on committees or just helping when something comes up and we “need a helping hand”. Stay Tuned!
In August we will have an updated calendar of Guild Events through December 2024. Hope to see you at one of the upcoming monthly meetings.
Workshop Series
Work is in progress for preparing a new series of workshops for Guild members. Highlights include continuing with helpful workshops and/or talks on preparing for art fairs. We will add a workshop on developing a social media presence including the How-to’s for Facebook and Instagram.
Workshops for 2024 and 2025
There are a few of our workshops we will be repeating, but would like some ideas from you. On our list will be How to Enter an Art Fair, Workshop series coming up:
TBD | Facebook and Instagram - How-to!
TBD | Peer-to-Peer Constructive Feedback Group Sessions – Led by JanetLynn Zuk. This Members Only event will be a casual group feedback discussion. A few walls and tables in the Gallery space at Art Emergency will be available for hanging/displaying work you want to bring in for feedback discussion. Schedule coming soon.
Speaker Series | To Restart in 2025
The Speaker Series will restart in 2025. Working with Cider Gallery and the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, the Guild will present a program in May at Cider Gallery. This program will focus on mental health and the event is free and open to the public. MORE information to come on additional Speakers/Programs.
Art in the Park Volunteers
The Lawrence Art Guild’s Art in the Park has been voted as the BEST OF LAWRENCE Nonprofit Event for the last 3 years. Volunteers are essential to guarantee the continued success of the Lawrence Art Guild’s Art in the Park! Let’s face it, an event this size could not achieve the “THE BEST OF…” without the hard and dedicated work of an awful lot of people.
The Volunteer Coordinator for Art in the Park, Tammi Clark, will be setting up the SignUp Genius for each volunteer opportunity. More information will be available at the August 19 Monthly Meeting. If you have questions now, send an email to office@lawrenceartguild.com (subject AITP Volunteer) and we will get you a quick response.
Here are a few AITP Volunteer Opportunities So Far:
Set Up and Tear Down Volunteers
Having a good set up and tear down crew is vital for the success of Art in the Park and sets the tone for the artists experience. Responsibilities could include:
Helping artists bring in their art into the park and to their tent, or help load them back up at the end
Help artists set up tents, tables
Help put out or collect directional and vendor signs
Information Tent Volunteers
Information Tent Volunteers are the Welcome Group, welcoming visitors to the Guild’s Art in the Park and helping anyone with a question including the artists.
At the table will be:
A ring binder with contact information and cell phone numbers for the Art in the Park Co-Coordinators, for the Guild’s President, Vice President and Treasurer, and the Volunteer Coordinator (all these individuals are artists who will be set up at their booths and can assist). The binder will also have general information about the Guild, who we are and what we do.
Handouts including maps of the park with location of the artists, the entertainment schedule, and so on
There will be a Day Of Coordinator there at all times who can help you
Artist Hospitality
Artist Hospitality is vital for the success of Art in the Park. An important part of a “good” event for the attending artists, this is the volunteer position that keeps the artists coming back to share their art with us year after year. You will need to have your cell phone with you. You are helping at the Water Bar to keep all of the Art in the Park attendees hydrated. You will be pouring water for people, refilling water canisters with water, ice and various fruits to flavor the water. Responsibilities could include:
Preparing Coffee
Setting up and keeping tidy the “snack” table which will have morning breads and pastries, fruit, sweet treats, etc.
Delivering free lunches to the artists (donated by local restaurants)
Minding a booth if an artist needs to step away or take a bathroom break
Refilling water tumblers or passing out bottled water to the artists at their tent
Deliver essential oil cold washcloths each afternoon, depending on the weather. These towels are in ziplock bags, previously frozen and just feel fantastic if you have been at a booth all day and just need a pick-me-up kind of moment
Other Member Volunteer Needs
There are other opportunities to volunteer throughout the year. I am listing a few here. If you would like to assist (Volunteer), email me your name, the name of the event or events that are of interest, and your telephone number. Please send it to: office@lawrenceartguild.com, and subject it: Maria Volunteer
