Applying for Art Grants and Residencies Informational Workshop

In this informational workshop, local ceramicist and teaching artist, Kim Brook will share her experience with finding and applying for art grants and residencies. Following the talk with a question and answer session. 

This event is hosted by the Lawrence Art Guild (LAG) and is free for LAG members. Non-members will be $10 

Kim Brook is a Lawrence, KS based Teaching Artist. She has taught visual arts at the Lawrence Arts Center, Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center, Western Kansas communities (Grant, Haskell, and Howard counties), workshops, and private lessons.

One of Kim’s passions is helping other artists on their art journeys.  She brings a wide range of experience from facilitating for Mid-America Arts Alliance to organizing local art events. In addition, Kim has received the Lawrence Community Arts Grant, Lawrence Equipment Grant, Ninth Street Community Grant, 323 Clay Residency, and Eureka School of the Arts Ceramic Residency.  Along with scholarships at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Peters Valley School of Craft, and Freeman-Asia scholar (while attending the University of Kansas) Kim has fervently continued her arts education. 

Building community is also an essential part of Kim’s life. She serves on the Friends of the Spencer Museum Board (Lawrence, KS), 100 Good Women Board (Secretary, Lawrence, KS), Lawrence Arts Guild (member), and KC Clay Guild (member). Also, Kim is the Lead Artist for Valentine’s Day Card Initiative for Meals on Wheels. In 2025, Kim and a community of over 200 volunteers made 1,700 cards for Douglas County Meals on Wheels. In 2026, Kim will lead volunteers in Lawrence, Topeka, Satanta, Overland Park, and Wichita (all in Kansas) in making Valentine’s Day cards for their local Meals on Wheels programs.
