The Lawrence Art Guild Participates in the Festival of Trees

The annual Lawrence Festival of Trees, held during the holiday season, is the primary fundraising event for The O’Connell Children’s Shelter. Businesses, clubs, children’s groups, families, and organizations donate Christmas trees and wreaths to be displayed for the entire Lawrence community to enjoy. The trees and wreaths are all decorated with inventive and whimsical themes in mind, and are auctioned off at the Festival of Trees gala.

The 2023 Lawrence Festival of Trees will be held Friday, November 24 – Sunday, December 3 at Maceli’s Banquet Hall & Catering, 1031 New Hampshire Street.

The Guild will be participating in the event with the donation of a Tree for their Auction.  The Tree Committee includes Laurie Culling, Heather Duris, Clark Fulton, Julie Kingsbury, and Kathleen Anderson.  Trees are titled and the committee chose “Rainbow Connection” for this years’ tree.
On October 27 a CALL FOR MAKING ORNAMENTS and other information was emailed to all members and the deadline for Ornament Drop Off is quickly approaching If you are interested in creating spherical ornaments, please see the attached, Call for Ornaments information.

Decorate the Tree.  There is a small group set to decorate the tree on Sunday, November 19 at Art Emergency from 11am until 5 pm.  If you are interested in lending a hand to help prep the ornaments before decorating, 3 to 4 volunteers would be helpful.  Note: The tree is transported fully decorated and ornaments need to be on wire and wired on the tree branches. Please let Laurie (Culling) know if you are free for a few hours starting at 11 am. A few hours of your assistance would be great!  Laurie’s number is 785-424-3448.

An afternoon Mimosa and Light Treats will be available after 1 pm if you are in the neighborhood and want to drop in and check on the progress.  The fully decorated tree can also be viewed on Monday November 20 at the Art Guild Monthly Meeting at Art Emergency 6:30-8:00pm.  The tree will be delivered to Maceli's on Tuesday November 21 and be one of the many trees and wreaths on view before the Auction.

Viewing hours: Nov. 24 – Dec. 2

Paul primarily focuses on showing her local landscape in pastels and oils and describes her work as "representational," somewhere between realism and abstraction.

Payne is best known for her intimate, oil-painted portraits of the communities surrounding her. The spots she chooses are rarely the community's landmarks but rather the back alleys, railroad crossings, and middle-class homes of small towns in the Midwest—subject matter overlooked by most.
