Jay Alexander

The essence of my work is to define and simplify known objects to a touch-inviting texture with an underlying completion difficulty. Working in stone because of its coldness, and wood because of its warmth I try to beg a certain second look from the viewer. I strive towards having people want to touch my sculptures in order to explore the smoothness and textures therein. The design of my works incorporates aspects that enhance the difficulty of the execution. I believe that to challenge oneself in order to improve is to be an artist, and overcoming the obstacles encountered in its creation is what I value in a completed work. Image one, Garden Godess, is made out of Tuxedo Limestone with a base made out of African Marble and is 42" tall. The second image in this gallery, Stretching, is Alabama Marble 4"x6"x14" tall.
