Art in the Park

History of Art in the Park and the Founding of the Lawrence Art Guild

2021 Event

After much deliberation we have decided to hold Art in the Park September 4th and 5th (Labor Day Weekend) in 2021, instead of the first weekend in May as it has typically been. Labor Day Weekend was our back up date this year due to COVID 19, and with the uncertainty surrounding possible treatments/vaccines we decided it would be easier on the artists to have a more firm date for planning, efficient use of our marketing partners, and give us the best chance to safely hold the event if we scheduled in September.

We chose this date so as to not conflict with fairs in Kansas City and the surrounding areas. We have not sorted out details regarding the application process but we wanted to let you know now so you can make sure to add us to your calendars.

We are excited about the coming new year and look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Due to years of artist requests Art in the Park 2021 will be a two-day event!

Art in the Park, the annual juried outdoor exhibition of fine art and fine craft, is Lawrence’s premiere arts event and is sponsored by the Lawrence Art Guild. Since 1964 this event has featured the highest quality work by many area artists and craftspeople, as well as continuous musical entertainment, food vendors, and family fun. Art in the Park typically attracts thousands of people, and is the Lawrence Art Guild’s primary fund-raising event. In 2019 The Lawrence Art Guild had two very successful “All Members Shows”, and gave $9,000 to local public high school art programs along with funding other LAG activities..

Art in the Park is located in South Park, 12th & Massachusetts, at the south end of beautiful downtown Lawrence, and will be Saturday, September 5th and Sunday September 6th from 10am to 5pm both days. Overnight security will be provided. (Rain cancellation will be announced that morning on KLWN 1320AM radio, the Lawrence Art Guild’s Facebook page and at 785-338-6695 by 7:00 am.)

We are excited about the coming new year and look forward to seeing everyone soon!
